Our Founder's Story
My name is Tenquarius Trenard Mender, but everyone calls me Nard. I’m a devoted father, a man of faith, and someone who truly cares about the future of our children. I created A Parent That Cares LLC because I know how important it is for parents and communities to come together to protect our kids, they are the leaders of tomorrow.
I won’t hide my past. I am a three-time convicted felon and a former gang member, but I am also living proof that change is possible. Through faith, accountability, and the willingness to grow, I transformed my life into one centered on family, purpose, and service. I don’t glorify the lifestyle I once lived, because I know firsthand where it leads either to the graveyard or a jail cell. I’ve been there, and it’s not a future anyone should want.
Those experiences changed me. They showed me how quickly freedom can be taken away and how one bad decision can alter a life forever. That’s why my mission is focused on youth, especially those struggling with mental health and lack of guidance. I believe that’s where many challenges begin, and that’s where real support can make the biggest difference.
Before my life took a different turn, I was a student-athlete with real opportunity. I was listed in the ESPN College Football Recruiting Database, recognized as part of the Class of 2016, and added to the Carver High School football roster in Atlanta in 2014. Football was my passion, and I had the chance to go far. But poor decisions and inconsistency cost me everything. I take full responsibility for that. No one forced that life on me I chose it, and I accepted the consequences like a man.

We want you to leave with the understanding that caring deeply about your child already makes a difference, and that intentional, compassionate parenting can change lives. We offer a warm, trustworthy space filled with practical guidance and resources, encouraging parents who genuinely want the best for their children and families.
I’m a proud father, and everything I do is for my children. I want more for them than the life I once lived, and I refuse to let them believe that the streets are something to admire. Even today, I sometimes face judgment because of my past, but I stand firm in who I am now. I’ve changed, and I continue to prove that through my actions every day.
